Lifestyle Examples Lead Forward

“Our heroes have always been cowboys.”

It’s been repeated many times in conversation, song and heartfelt comment.

Ever since we can remember, our greatest admiration has been of cowboys, and desire to be one.

Definitions of cowboy sadly are very widespread these days. Still, a real cowboy wears a hat and boots, and rides a horse with a saddle to latch onto a cow need be.

Just how the lifestyle of cowboy has affected everything we’ve done was reflected on two recent Saturdays.

For some reason, we were asked to talk about cowboys and stories at a ranch gathering. Fortunately, we’ve been acquainted with a lot of cowboys, and everyone has a story, many which we’ve written about, or definitely want to, and plan to write about.

It was a fun time reminiscing many of the real cowboys we’ve known, each considered a friend, several we’ve been privileged to ride horses for, as each had permanently positive cowboy influence on us.

A week later, of course after four hours at a horse sale, we traveled to Dodge City for induction of three more personal cowboy heroes into the Kansas Cowboy Hall of Fame.

It was truly an inspirational affair having our close cowboy friends honored, and hearing stories about them, and all the others who are Kansas Cowboy Hall of Fame inductees. Providentially, a number of those we’ve also known personally, ridden horses for, sold horses to several, written about, or plan to, and all remain our heroes.

Occasionally we’re asked:  “Where did you find that Bible verse?” There are many translations of the Bible, and we’ve referred to several.  For the first time, today’s contemplations come from “The Simplified Cowboy Version,” a one of a kind Bible paraphrase, and “Learning The Ropes,” a New Living Translation Bible.

Thus, reminds us of Hebrews 10:25: “Don’t forget, as some have the habit of doing, that it’s important to sit around the campfire and share each other’s company. Give encouragement and spur each other on to good trails.”

Because, Jeremiah 29:11: “The trail that I want you to ride doesn’t lead to a desert, but to green grass, it’s the future that you prayed for.” Therefore, Philippians 1:6: “You can be sure that the cowboy who started you on the right trail will ride with you until the end.”
