Color significant to life

“You must like red.”

The little cowgirl on her spotted horse made that observation as she rode by while we were tightening our saddle before mounting ’Zane for the next class.

“Yep, you’re right,” we congenially responded.

A red truck, red trailer, red shirt and red cap made that analysis fairly easy.

Red has always been our favorite color, following tradition set by Mom who frequently wore red outfits matching her scarves, jewelry and lipstick.

Important to us is that our ranch colors are red and white, with red buildings and white fences.

We’ve had several colors of cars, but we always preferred the red one that lasted a decade, and now we have three red pickups. We had a red trailer for 30 years, and when we got a new one, it’s red, too.

While we’ve never worn red jeans or boots, our caps are red, and we wear red shirts when we’re showing or driving our horses.

Following that image, we wore red shirts when judging horse shows. Then at a major competition, a woman informed us: “Judges don’t wear red shirts.” It was news to us, but we haven’t worn a red shirt when judging a show since then.

Color preference carried into our wedding with bridesmaids wearing red dresses, and the bride’s white gown featured red accessories. Red tassels were on the pony team bridles as we drove away.

Red horses are mentioned frequently in the Bible, and we’ve had many “\red” (sorrel) horses. Our saddle blanket isn’t red, but we’re getting a new one to match the attire. Tassels and plume on our driving bridle are red, with matching leg wraps coming.

Red is the color of blood and significant to life itself. Referred to in the Bible, red symbolizes blood atonement; sacrifice of Christ’s blood; covenant of grace; cleansing justification; war; the wrath of God;  judgment; death; love; redemption; sacrifice; fire; the person of Jesus; the cross; and more.

One coworker always wears a red tie on Friday symbolically honoring Christ who gave His blood of life on Friday so we might live. It’s a sentiment we too now shadow.

Reminds us of Isaiah 1:18: “Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”
