Entertainment For The Whole Family At Holton’s Old Fashioned Fun Day, Ranch Rodeo Saturday

There’ll be old fashioned fun for all Saturday at the Northeast Kansas Heritage Complex located just west of Highway 75, and 214 Road, south of Holton.

“It time for the fourth annual ranch rodeo and a full array of family entertainment sponsored by the Jackson County Fair Association, October 5, with gates opening at 11 o’clock, and festivities getting underway at 12:30,” announced Deb Dillner, official of the fair organization, sponsoring the Old Fashioned Fun Day.

“This is a fundraising event for the continued construction of the Northeast Kanas Heritage Complex, so there will be a free will donation at the gate,” Dillner noted.

Denny Ashcraft (mounted) and Luke Kennedy compete for the K Road Ranch team in the Fall Ranch Rodeo last year sponsored by the Jackson County Fair Association. This year’s fourth annual Western action, in conjunction with the Old Fashioned Fun Day, is October 5, at the Northeast Kansas Heritage Complex, located just west of Highway 75, and 214 Road, south of Holton.

“Four-cowboy ranch teams will be exhibiting their skills in events similar to work done every day on the ranch in team sorting, steer mugging, trailer loading and steer branding,” Dillner said.

Again, a highlight of the matinee will be mutton busting, or sheep riding, for little cowboys and cowgirls, with signup Saturday noon.

Supper is at 5 o’clock, with chili and all the trimmings, and winners of the day’s competitions are to be announced, along with silent and live auctions to benefit the complex.

Climax of the cowboy and cowgirl festivities is the dance to the music of CrossRoads, beginning at 7:30.

“It is a full afternoon and evening of old fashioned fun for the whole family, Saturday, Oct. 5, at Holton. Grab your hat, and ‘Y’all come join the fun,’” welcomed Dillner, who can be contacted for details at 785-250-4230.
