There are far too many untold stories.
Everybody has a unique legend. There is no other like it anywhere. While many folks might contend they have never done anything noteworthy, that is not true, because each life is its own true tale.
Significance of individuality and its importance were again brought to mind during our Halloween Sunday morning cemetery stroll. Actually, our visit was in advance for
All Saint’s Day and All Soul’s Day, which were the two following days, respectively.
Our reason and intention were to pay respect and remember the souls of all family loved ones and friends who have died and gone to heaven. More importantly even was to think about and pray especially for those who didn’t get there and give a prod for faster entrance of those who were fortunately on the way.
Parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents and great grandparents along with other distance relatives, most we never knew and some we’d never even heard of, were visited briefly.
As is the same with most everyone, we first look at the name on the gravestones.
There is always reflection about the deceased, recalling the way we remember them and the times we shared. We thought about what the ones who passed before our time might have been like, especially in relation to us and other ancestors.
Of course, date of birth and death are viewed, and calculation is made to see how long the life and how it corresponded to ours and history. If one should say time in a
graveyard could be pleasant, it was that for us in the bright, warm, fall morning as we stopped by several dozen other graves of those who we had been acquainted.
Their stories in brevity as we knew them were each recalled. Every one somehow played an important role in our life and that of our society, so it seemed. Many of those who could be appropriately described as“common folks,” left a very fond impression on us, creating a warm feeling and a deep loss as we remembered them.
At a couple of graves, we reminisced how the deceased was sometimes put down or related to with negative remarks during their days on earth. All of their generosities and enormous service for the community were overlooked by their unique peculiarities. Their stories truly would make best selling books, but the intimate details are lost in eternity.
We really do miss all of our deceased family and friends and certainly would like to know the individuality of their one-of-a-kind life.
It reminds us of Job 23:13: “He is unique and who can turn Him?”Likewise, we think of Psalm 145:7: “Everyone will share the storyof your wonderful goodness; they will sing with joy about your righteousness.”However, the most essential is Ecclesiastes 12:23: “The whole story is: Fear God and obey his commands, for this is the duty.”
