Working ranch cowboys from throughout Kansas were in rodeo competition two nights during the EquiFest of Kansas at Salina.
Molly Olson managed the rodeo hosted by the Kansas Horse Council and sponsored by Adequan with Maynard Buckles to champions.
Rodeos Friday and Saturday evenings were separate competitions with many of the same 15 teams entered both performances.
Events included team sorting, single mugging, trailer loading and wild cow milking. Halftime entertainment both performances was by the Trixie Chicks Trick Riders who also presented shows and clinics during EquiFest.
Lonesome Pine Ranch, Cedar Point, claimed the Saturday night championship after placing second in Friday’s performance. Team members are Bud Higgs, Troy Higgs, Makenzie Higgs, Bo Krueger and Travis Duncan. They won the single mugging Friday and wild cow milking Saturday.
In Friday’s performance, Broken H/Nelson Angus, Leonardville, claimed the overall championship with Mike Nelson, Brian Wurtz, Cliff Hall and Clay Hokr. They won both team sorting and trailer loading events Friday as well as being first in the trailer loading Saturday.
Gibbs Ranch, Parsons, was third overall Friday and second on Saturday. Riders include Chase Gibbs, Kolby Boos, Ty Swiler and Doug Hall. Gibbs Ranch was first in wild cow milking Friday and first in both team sorting and single mugging Saturday.
Springfed Cattle/Struthers Ranch, Onaga, was third overall in Saturday’s performance. Cody Brock, Jacob Kehler, Justin Struthers and Ben Doyle are the team members.
