Nearly 60 cowboys and cowgirls, 19 years of age and under, from eight counties participated in the 35th annual Morris County Youth Rodeo, sponsored by the Morris County Youth Rodeo Association, Saturday evening at Council Grove.
Top four contestants in the rodeo events, divided into age groups for juniors, intermediate and seniors, received working prizes.
All-around awards, especially designed and made by Alexander Artworks of Council Grove, went to the top cowboy and cowgirl in each age category.
Cheyenne Larson, White City, was the all-around senior cowgirl, and Brent Orr, also of White City, received the all-around senior cowboy award.
Beau Peterson of Council Grove was recognized as the all-around intermediate cowgirl, and Camden Hoelting, Olpe, won the award for being all-around cowboy in the intermediate age group.
Junior all-around cowgirl honors went to Taylor Gustafson, Junction City, while Dexton, Hoelting, Olpe, was the junior all-around cowboy award winner.
The 28th annual Fall Ranch Rodeo, sponsored by the Morris County Youth Rodeo Association, is scheduled Sunday, Oct. 5, 1 p.m., at the Morris County Rodeo Arena, east of Council Grove. Events are to include double mugging, team penning, steer branding, and team roping, with mutton busting for the kids.
For youngsters 13 years of age and under, the Fall Junior Ranch Rodeo, sponsored by the Morris County Youth Rodeo Association, will be Sunday morning, Oct. 5, 10 o’clock, with team penning, ribbon roping and calf branding listed as the contest events.
