Preparedness Is Life’s Fulfillment

“It’s reassuring that he had his bags packed.”

That was the message we received when notified of the sudden passing of a mutual friend.

Evidently it’s a more common term than we realized initially, but still we nodded to our self in agreement.

Our friend truly was, outwardly at least, as ready to leave earth and go to the great beyond as any one we’ve ever known.

Wouldn’t it be nice if we could all say that? Whether our friend actually felt it that way, only he and his judge know, yet from every appearance he was.

Preparation and satisfaction level means something different to everyone, and many would never be satisfied with their place here no matter what.

Still, nobody is going to get out of this life alive. It’s that simple regardless of how complicated anyone wants to make it. The fact is everyone dies. Even the Lord himself did.

Thankfully, He was given life thereafter, and gave promise of the same to all who express belief and have faith to follow.

Importance of living life to the fullest has been our opinion aired freely, and we again feel that urgency, even though we know it should not be pressure to accomplish such.

Yet, the day and the hour are always unknown, even to our admired compadre. He too most likely had more dreams, and plans of what he was going to do the next morning, and if he really did live forever.

“Getting the house in order” is essential whatever our age. Some elderly do have all of their “ducks in a row,” but others are in continual denial, never looking past the present.

On the other hand, sometimes those who are aware their end is near make sure every detail is covered for their personal satisfaction and for the loved ones left behind. Certainly, this world will go on without us.

Let us all live, love, enjoy and help our family, neighbor, community and church, while praying for the hereafter, so our bags, too, are packed when the time arrives.

Reminds us of Luke 22:33: “Master, I’m ready for anything with you. I’d die for you.” It is repeated in Acts 15:26: “I am ready not only to be imprisoned, but even to die for the name of the Lord Jesus.”
