Year End Kansas Champions Qualify For National Finals High School Rodeo

The best high school cowboys and cowgirls in Kansas are headed to Wyoming.

Results from the Kansas High School Rodeo Association have been announced by Suzan Adams, secretary.

Yearend standings are the total of point earnings from 14 sanctioned rodeos last fall and this spring added to placings at the recent Kansas High School Rodeo Finals in Topeka.

Top four contestants in each event qualify to compete at the National High School Rodeo Association Finals, July 17-23, in Gillette, Wyoming.

Honored as finals all-around cowboy at the state finals was Jess Pope of Garnett, who ended the year as the champion in both bareback bronc riding and saddle bronc riding.

Landon Koehn, Salina, was the yearend champion calf roper, and with Chandler Comfort tied for yearend third in team roping, to be honored as the finals runner-up all-around cowboy.

Timber Allenbrand of Paola was yearend champion in both goat tying and girls cutting, while ranking fourth in breakaway roping, sixth in pole bending and ninth in barrel racing to be the final’s all-around cowgirl.

Yearend champion barrel racer Kayla Olson of Coldwater was third for the year in pole bending, while also competing in goat tying and breakaway roping, to be the finals runnerup all-around cowgirl award recipient.

Jesse Boos of White Cloud was honored as rookie cowboy and Caxton Martin, Alma, was the rookie cowgirl honoree.

Cheyenne Larson, Council Grove, rode Ranger Cookie to be Horse of the Year.

Ariat Best Boot Forward awards went to Trenton Solida, Phillipsburg, and Taylor Algrim, Blackwell, Oklahoma.

Yearend event standings, qualifiers for the national high school finals:

Bareback: Pope, Coy Christian, Ryan Yergey, and Drake Taysom.

Saddle bronc: Pope, Tim Williams, Jake Joeckel, and David Wright.

Team roping: Tanner Jackman and Joel Miller, Taylor Lagasse and Payson Crouch, Koehn and Comfort, and Reed Boos and Jaden Trimble.

Steer wrestling: JD Draper, Wacey Dorenkamp, Connor Gentry and Bradley Ralph.

Pole bending: Taylor Algrim, Jayme Flowers, Olson and Shay Whiting.

Goat tying: Allenbrand, Peterson, C. Martin and Taylor Lagasse.

Calf roping: Koehn, Trevor Meier, Arnold and Logan Wiseman.

Bull riding: Trey Holston, Shad Winn, Colton Harroald and Trey Ahring.

Breakaway roping: Beau Peterson, C. Martin, Kassidy Martin and Allenbrand.

Barrel racing: Olson, Rylin Rouse, Algrim and C. Martin.

Girls cutting: Allenbrand, Holly Hazlett, Kassidy McKee and Olson.

Boys cutting: Erick Eisenbarth, Garret Waugh.

Reined cow horse: Bodie Sauvage, Callie McGhee, K. Martin and Heath Calvert.
