Ranch Rodeo Friday, Saturday At Council Grove

“The Santa Fe Trail Ranch Rodeo sanctioned by the Working Ranch Cowboys Association is Friday and Saturday, July 8-9, at Council Grove.”

That’s the reminder announcement from Clay Wilson, president of the sponsoring Morris County Youth Rodeo Association.

A working ranch cowboy, Les Magee of Greeley is providing his big, rank, bright-speckled Longhorn cows for the wild cow milking in the Santa Fe Trail Ranch Rodeo, July 8-9, at Council Grove.
Bright-speckled Longhorn cows will be featured in the wild cow milking event during the Santa Fe Trail Ranch Rodeo, July 8-9, at Council Grove.

At the arena east of town, rodeos are set for both evenings at 7 o’clock. There will be a youth rodeo Saturday morning, July 9, at 10 o’clock.

Fourteen working ranch teams from throughout the Midwest are expected for the evening performances with eight youth teams entered.

Top teams of both divisions qualify for the 27th World Championship Ranch Rodeo in Amarillo, Texas, November 10-13.

Adult division events are ranch bronc riding, wild cow milking, calf branding, stray gathering, and team penning. Featured youth events are calf branding, doctoring, cattle sorting, and penning.

Concessions by the sponsoring group will be available throughout each rodeo performance.

Additional information for entries and details is available from Wilson at 785-466-1359.
