Candles Really Are Quite Important

Flickering glow of a candle sure is warming to the heart. Candles lit before a recent memorial service seemed to have the most power of any in our recollection. Whatever the reason, it made us think about how candles touch our life.

Not Our Time Just Yet

We are alive. One could call us “Dead Man Walking,” like the movie and descriptive quote. “Fact can only be stranger than fiction” again proves true. Despite the seriousness, and admiration for others involved, there’s a bit of humor to it all.

Never Any Falsifying About Tooth Pain

Toothaches are no fun. While we’ve had very little pain in our six decades, the most severe throbbing ever was an infected tooth. Our discomfort threshold isn’t as high as many, and for a cowboy to complain of a simple tooth hurting seems unnecessary. Yet, we did and still remember that day.

Even Cowboys Are Mortal

In three days, we buried three cowboy friends. It is depressing to attend services day after day for cowboys who always seemed immortal. Many have been to memorials when it was a “stranger”described by the eulogist. These were all “good funerals,” if there is such. Each cowboy was represented like we knew him.

Yes, There Is A Santa Claus

Jolly Ole St. Nick sure takes lots of shapes. As a seven-year-old connoisseur of cowboy boots, it bothered us that Santa Claus had the “strangest boots.” They were actually black plastic leggings sewed onto red pants that drooped over brown shoes. It was tell-tale sign there was something fishy.

“Merry Christmas” “It’s beautiful day for a parade.” “Thanks for coming. We sure appreciate you weathering the weather to be here.” Those frequent acknowledgements, even if one repeated as snide, came from the inconceivably-large number of parade watchers as heavy rain dripped from their umbrellas, hats, and many uncovered-heads.

Value More Important Than Cost

“Everything’s   high-dollar.” That’s been the  agitated and snide response to our ever-so-frequent comments of similar connation. “Where’s that   high-dollar bridle?” “They sure have a high-dollar trailer?” “That’s one   high-dollar saddle.” “We need a sack of that high-dollar feed?”

Most Appreciative Of All

“Thank you.” Importance of those two words can’t be stressed enough. And, we’ve raved about that in the past, seemingly to no avail, because we don’t hear it said any more frequently,  wherever we are. But, with Thanksgiving Day this week, the important words come to our mind again. As the seasons slip upon us, […]

Mishaps Often Have Blessings Too

Computers don’t like coffee. There is no question about that. Of our addictions, coffee comes right after horses. We like coffee.
