Dedicated Work Essential Despite Heritage

Like father like son.

Only thing better than being a winner is having a son and grandson in first place.

Our ranking at the top has been few, but when the grandson came home with best blue for giving a talk about his hogs, our hat tightened on our head.

It’s quite unlike us, but our son has frequently scored above the rest, and his son is following in line.

In retrospect, we are sorry that we didn’t have such achievement to make our Dad feel so fine.

Quite like his grandson and great grandson, Dad was a man of many talents, despite adversity of losing a left hand in a combine accident.

One thing we did inherit from Dad, although not to his capabilities, was appreciation for horses and understanding to manage and handle them with more ease than some.

That trait fortunately has extended to the next two generations in our boy and his boy. They are naturally skilled horsemen, although perhaps not with the heartfelt appreciation for the attribute we feel.

Both, too, are stockmen by instinct. Whatever the species, their management level is
superb.

Work is still the reason for it all. They have natural abilities, but stringent effort is what puts them ahead.

A cowboy friend, who had considerable fortune in breeding horses, has always emphasized,“The harder you work, the luckier you get.”

We agree, but it might be altered to “No matter your level of skill, it takes that extra effort to beat the crowd.”

Yet, we are reminded of Ecclesiastes 9:11: “The fastest runner doesn’t always win the race, and the strongest warrior doesn’t always win the battle. It is all decided by chance, by being in the right place at the right time.”

Likewise, it’s essential to recall First Corinthians 9:24: “Don’t you realize that in a race
everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win.”

However, we most appreciate John 5:19: “Jesus said, Verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things so ever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.”

Moreover, we agree with Matthew 11:27: “No one knows the Son the way the Father does, nor the Father the way theSon does.
