Pages of time will be turned back for those who get a special spark from tractors, engines, and vehicles of days gone by.
“It’s the Glory Days of Iron Show, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 3-4-5, at the Lewis Young Park in Louisburg,” announced Jan Garber, old iron enthusiast and event promotor.
“But, there’ll be much more than antiques, as fun activities for everybody have been planned in conjunction with this year’s annual show sponsored by the Miami County Antique Tractor and Engine Association, Inc.,” said Garber, noting that the group is a 501 (c) (3) organization.
Activities kick off Friday, June 3, at 265th Jingo Road, when there is a tractor cruise at 4 o’clock, followed by a supper begging at 6 o’clock. Homemade ice cream is a treat most anticipated by everyone, with live music keeping the spirts always at a high throughout the three days.
“We’ll be featuring Allis Chalmers, as well as Briggs and Fairbanks Engines, but owners of every model and kind of tractor and engine are especially welcome to come and show off what they have,” Garber insisted.
Highlights of the attractions are to be military exhibits, a 1910 Stanley Steamer and a special display of pre-1950 cars and trucks.
A Parade of Power will be at noon both Saturday and Sunday, with tractor games for all ages each day.
Children’s activities are to feature a money in the hay competition, a pedal tractor pull, train rides, and a petting zoo.
Always a highlight of “Glory Days,” Garber said, are the women’s shoe and skillet throw competitions, with most unique “bragging right” carrying over throughout the year and into future shows.
Helicopter rides with John Rowlands are set for Saturday afternoon, and there’ll be Model T Ford rides throughout the show.
The Barbecue Battle In the Burg contest is at 5 o’clock, Saturday, kicking off the garden tractor pull, featuring stock and mini-rod entries, at 6 o’clock, with the raffle drawing an hour later.
Country Church Band is to entertain on Sunday.
