Morris County Youth Rodeo At Council Grove

Cowboys and cowgirls 19 years of age and under have been welcomed to participate in the 34th annual Morris County Youth Rodeo at Council Grove.

“It’s set for the club arena east of town on Saturday night, Aug. 2, beginning at 6 o’clock,” announced Heidi Lange, who’s in charge of entries for the competition sponsored by the Morris County Youth Rodeo Association.

There’ll be divisions for juniors, eight and under; intermediate, nine to 13; and seniors, 14-19, Lange clarified.

Events include steer riding, goat tail tying, goat tying, breakaway roping, barrel racing, pole bending, chute dogging, calf roping and team roping.

Most events are divided into age groups, but there are some for just cowgirls, others just for the cowboys, as well as a couple of classes where everybody competes together.

Entry fees are $3 per person per event. “Valuable working prizes will be presented to the top four placing contestants in every class. And, the best part is that we’ll be giving unique awards to the all-around cowboy and all-around cowgirl in each of the three age divisions,” Lange said.

Admission fee will be charged at the gate for everybody attending the rodeo.

Entries should be made to Lange by Friday, Aug., 1, preferably through email: heidilange54@gmail.com. They can also be mailed to Heidi Lange, 564 F Avenue, Alta Vista, Kansas, 66834.
