Beau Peterson, 22, Council Grove, has again proven to be one of the elite breakaway ropers in the country.
She was fourth in the average at the recent world championship breakaway roping competition during the National Finals Rodeo (NFR) in Las Vegas, Nevada.
In the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association yearend breakaway roping standings, Peterson unofficially placed 12th with $69,907.
At the two-day, 10 go-round finals, November 29-30, Peterson roped nine out of ten calves in 36.3-seconds. That won her $6,541 in the average money.
Go-round placings included: first round, sixth, 3.1-seconds, $876; fourth round, tie for third, 2.3-seconds, $2,452; sixth round, fifth, 2.9-seconds, $1,577; and 10th round, sixth, 3-seconds, $876.
In her first year to qualify for the NFR, Peterson rode her eight-year-old mare called Missy
Competing in 75 rodeos during the 2022 season, Peterson won breakaway at Caldwell, Idaho, and Bowie, Texas. She was co-champion at Walla Walla, Washington, and Burwell, Nebraska.
Placing second at Hugo, Oklahoma, Peterson tied for second at Killdeer, North Dakota, and Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
Daughter of Morris County ranchers Matt and Dustin Peterson, the cowgirl attends Oklahoma Panhandle State in Goodwell. On the university rodeo team, she is majoring in biology with plans to attend nursing school.
In 2017, Peterson won the Kansas high school championship in breakaway roping and goat tying and was the International Finals Youth Rodeo champion goat tyer.
In 2018, she was the Kansas state champion pole bender, breakaway roper, goat tyer, and all-around.
